Welcome to Halfway Homemade Decor!

I began this business after working as an elementary teacher for 10 years. I was burnt out and looking to try something new!

But what COULD I do? As an elementary teacher I did it all so I was qualified for just about anything! I thought I would make a killer administrative assistant or maybe a project manager. I already had the skills for those positions! Easy peasy lemon squeezy! New career here I come! Then, it dawned on me. Rather than asking myself what I COULD be doing, I ought to be asking myself what I WANTED to do?

Well, if I was being honest with myself, I wanted to stay home, do arts and crafts, and surf Pinterest all day long! The wheels in my brain began turning. I could buy pieces from the thrift store, beautify them, then resell for a profit! I’ve seen other people do it, why couldn’t I? Huh, it sounded like I wanted to own my own business.

But owning my own business would be risky! It sounded so irresponsible that I was embarrassed to talk about it. Then, memory popped into my head. It was a compilation of every moment I told my 200+ students to be brave and have courage when they were too scared to do something. How could I tell my students to have courage if I don’t? I thought about my own daughter and what I am teaching her to become. Would I want her to stay in a job she hates or find a job she loves?

Taking a leap of faith, Halfway Homemade Decor was born! Cue the confetti and pass out the candy cigars! This mama’s got a new business!

Now, I am very much aware that my business could fail. If that happens, I will show my daughter how to fail with dignity so that next time we both rise higher.

But what if my business doesn’t fail? What if it’s a success? What if people actually like my art? Well then all of the sacrifice and fear would be worth it!
